Call for SU honorary degree nominations by March 16
The Syracuse University Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all students, faculty, staff and alumni to nominate candidates to receive honorary degrees at the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Commencement ceremonies. The deadline for all nominations is March 16, 2012.
Persons who wish to nominate a candidate should complete a nomination form, available online at universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/NominationForm.pdf (PDF), and attach requested materials that outline the nominee’s qualifications for the honorary degree. A copy of the nominee’s vita or resume, or a list of the candidate’s professional history and contributions must be included. Include additional information, with at least two letters of support, and writings that attest to the eminence of the candidate. Please note that if one of the support letters is not from the dean of the relevant school or college, the dean will be consulted about the nomination. Strive for brevity in preparing nomination materials. Each nomination should be limited to eight pages, excluding resume or CV.
The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees will review all nominations and recommend final candidates to the full Senate, which will make the final decision. If feasible for the candidate and appropriate for the program area, honorary degree recipients will be invited to present colloquia on Friday of Commencement Weekend.
Nominations should be submitted to Arthur D. Jensen, chair of the Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees and an associate dean in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, by mail at 205 Crouse College. More information is available online at universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/honorary.html or by contacting Jensen at 443-5890 or adjensen@syr.edu.
