Syracuse University Florence director publishes novel

peruginiSasha Perugini, director of SU Florence, has just published her third novel. “Un buco nel cuore,” or "A Hole in the Heart" (Italic, 2011), is the chronicle of a delicate surgical operation. From the moment the author learns she must undergo heart surgery until her return to work, the narrative navigates themes that go beyond the medical episode to explore concepts like the mother-daughter relationship, the relationship with one’s body, the construction of identity, fear and (inappropriate) romantic crushes. The book is currently available in Italian on Amazon.it.

A native of Siena, Italy, Perugini earned her laurea in English and Russian, with a minor in economics from the Universita Degli Studi Di Siena. She earned her master’s degree in foreign languages and literature, and Ph.D. in the history of performing arts from Tufts University.

Before coming to SU Florence in March 2011, Perugini served as the center manager for Australia's Monash University study abroad program in Prato, Italy.
