The School of Information Studies (iSchool) has announced that Scott A. Barrett will join the iSchool as the assistant dean for advancement beginning Dec. 5.

Barrett joins the iSchool from Loretto, the largest provider of eldercare services in Central New York. At Loretto, he held the position of vice president of development.

Prior to joining Loretto, Barrett served for six years as executive director of the Friends of Bassett Foundation in Cooperstown, N.Y. He joined Bassett after leading advancement efforts for Le Moyne College as director of development, and later as vice president for advancement, including directing the efforts of a successful $30.5 million campaign.

Barrett holds a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at the iSchool,” says Barrett. “It is a school with an outstanding reputation and is leading so many interesting and innovative programs. The enthusiasm of the faculty, staff, students and board members that I experienced throughout the search was very impressive.”

As the new assistant dean for advancement, Barrett will secure financial support to help the iSchool deliver the best education to its students in this era where information is central to all organizations and individuals. Barrett will also be charged with helping to create a culture of philanthropy that fully engages the faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends of the iSchool in the support of strategic initiatives.
