Reid joins Whitman as communications specialist
Karla Scoon Reid of Baldwinsville joined the Whitman School of Management earlier this fall as a communications specialist. In her role, Reid supports Whitman’s marketing and communications function through research, writing and editing. She helps produce content for all print and non-print media, including newsletters, Whitman magazine, the online newsroom, annual reports, donor reports, letters and academic promotional materials. Reid reports to Whitman’s communications manager and helps administer projects for the communications manager and the director of marketing.
An award-winning education writer, she previously served as a staff writer for a number of publications, including Education Week, the Tallahassee Democrat and the Cincinnati Enquirer. A freelance writer since 2008, Reid has worked on projects including profiles, features and in-depth stories in a variety of subject areas for clients including Whitman magazine, Making Music magazine, Syracuse.com and the Post-Standard.
She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, and has completed writing seminars through the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media at Teachers College of Columbia University and the Poynter Institute.
