Artist manager, music producer to speak Oct. 20 as part of Soyars Leadership Lecture Series

Artist manager and attorney Michael Lehman and music producer Scott Billington will give a talk on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:45 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The lecture is part of the Bandier Program’s Soyars Leadership Lecture Series in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (VPA) Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music. It is open to the University community.

Lehman has represented Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Luther Vandross, Run DMC, Ben Vereen, Taylor Dayne, the Fugees, Phil Ramone, RMM Records and many others. He expanded his entertainment representations by founding Wydown Management Corp. which, among other ventures, manages the careers of such clients as Gregg Allman and Rev Run (a.k.a. Joey Simmons). Five years ago he brought together his legal expertise and his business acumen in the entertainment field and began to consult.

Billington is vice president of A&R at Rounder Records. With more than 100 albums to his credit—among them two Grammy Award winners, 10 Grammy nominees and many other award winners—he balances a broad musical background and a keen ear with a knack for bringing out the best in the artists with whom he works. He makes records that are renowned not only for their production values, but for their soulfulness. As half of the duo Tangle Eye, he has brought an uncommonly organic sensibility to the art of the remix. He has also been active in the music industry as a writer, multimedia author, graphic designer and musician.
