An Associated Press article notes that Vincent Tinto, Distinguished University Professor in the School of Education, will deliver the keynote address at the North Dakota University System Retention Summit, a conference about helping students complete their college degrees.

An MSNBC report on new members of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) notes the continuing participation of Catherine Bertini, professor of practice in public administration at the Maxwell School, on the panel that offers advice on global food security to the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The Post-Standard previewed StoryFest IV: A Family Storytelling Event, an annual storytelling event held in honor of the late Syracuse educator Ted Grace. StoryFest IV is run by the Corcoran High School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization in conjunction with the Corcoran Alumni Association and SU's School of Education.

The Post-Standard's "Green CNY" section features an essay by Bloomberg News reporter James S. Russell on the importance of the Syracuse Center of Excellence to the region, and to the study of sustainable building technology.

YNN, 9WSYR and WAER reported on the news conference at the SyracuseCoE to announce the winners of the Technology Application and Demonstration awards, which provide local companies with government grants to demonstrate how products they are developing can improve air quality and water systems.

The Syracuse New Times mentions the Syracuse Hunger Project, a collaboration among the Maxwell School's Department of Geography and emergency food providers in the community, in an article on community gardens in Syracuse.

FACULTY QUOTES

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Boston Globe article on how the federal budget moved from a surplus to a deficit in a decade of overspending and tax cuts followed by the economy in recession.

An op-ed by SU alumnus Rami Khouri '70, G'98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, is cited in NPR's Thursday Talk of the Nation show about U.S. strategy in the Middle East and Africa. Menachem Z. Rosensaft, distinguished visiting lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law, authored a Jewish Chronicle column on the historical context of the John Demjanjuk verdict.
