OurAbility.com launches as mentoring resource for people with disabilities looking for employment or educational opportunities
With a goal of providing a series of mentoring resources to people with disabilities looking for employment or educational opportunities, a new web portal OurAbility.com, was launched today. OurAbility.com will partner with businesses, universities and organizations to provide the best information possible to people with disabilities, allowing them to find companies that have an interest in hiring disabled workers, and universities that provide services.
Companies that have already agreed to become partners and sponsors of Our Ability include: Cargill, Syracuse University, NYSARC Inc., Trust Services and the US Business Leadership Network (USBLN).
OurAbility.com was founded by John Robinson '90, a congenital amputee, who traveled extensively across the country over the past two years promoting his life story “Get Off Your Knees” as a means to encourage others to overcome physical obstacles. Robinson authored an autobiography “Get Off Your Knees: A Story of Faith, Courage, and Determination” published by Syracuse University Press. He is currently general manager for AXXESS Media Productions. In 2010, he started a not-for-profit organization/501(c) 3 dedicated to educating people in schools and businesses about people with disabilities, titled Disability Education Forum of New York (DEFNY). He is a 1990 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Overcoming stereotypes through education to students, individuals and businesses about people with disabilities is the mission of OurAbility.com. For full details, visit: http://www.ourability.com.
