Middle Eastern Studies Program Summer Grants
Syracuse University Undergraduate Students

As part of its Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program (UISFL) grant, the Middle Eastern Studies (MES) Program will award 2 or 3 grants ($900 to $1,300 each) to Syracuse University undergraduate students who wish to travel to the Middle East for study abroad, language training or internships during summer 2011. There will be a preference for students pursuing the major or minor in MES.

The proposals will be evaluated on the basis of i) originality and significance of the proposed research, ii) organization and clarity of the proposal, iii) appropriateness and feasibility of the research plan in relation to the student’s background and qualifications, and iv) cost effectiveness.

You can either e-mail your 1-2 page proposal to mes@maxwell.syr.edu or send one hard copy to Middle Eastern Studies Program, 332 Eggers Hall, Syracuse University. Submission deadline is March 11. Those interested in seeing a list of potential internship

PLACA Summer Research Grants
Syracuse University Graduate Students

This year the Program on Latin America and the Caribbean (PLACA) will grant awards to graduate students to support field research in Latin America and the Caribbean during the summer of 2011. The purpose of the award is to provide students the opportunity to gather preliminary data, make contacts, map topics, and increase competitiveness of
future proposals for funding. Any student enrolled in a M.A. or Ph.D. program at Syracuse University or SUNY-ESF may apply. The awards are competitive and proposals are judged on the basis of i) quality of the proposed research, ii) organization and thoughtfulness of the proposal, and iii) appropriateness and feasibility of the research plan in relation to the student's background and qualifications.

Maxwell doctoral students are eligible to apply for the Goekjian
Award.
