The Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS) is currently seeking nominations for the 2011 Chancellor’s Award for Public Engagement and Scholarship. The awards will be given in a ceremony on Wednesday, March 30, in the Schine Student Center’s Goldstein Auditorium.

The award, formerly known as the Chancellor’s Award for Public Service (CAPS), recognizes Syracuse University students who exemplify Scholarship in Action—the bold vision that matches the vigorous pursuit of knowledge with the ability to make a difference in the world through community engagement.

The award acknowledges individual students, groups of students, residence halls, residence floors, student organizations and academic projects or classes that are invested in and contribute to the public good.

All faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate individual students and groups. Nominations should demonstrate student commitment to Scholarship in Action, give examples of leadership and illustrate the importance or impact it has had for the particular agency, program, clients and/or students. Nominations for students in programs outside the Syracuse/Onondaga County area must be made by SU faculty or staff members who administer the program in which the nominee participates.

Friday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. is the deadline for nominations to be submitted online or delivered to CPCS, 237 Schine Student Center.
