Design competition to focus on solutions for common paring knife

Design solutions for the common paring knife will be the challenge of this year’s Junior Prize competition of the industrial and interaction design program in Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). The public is invited to attend the final presentations of the competition on Tuesday, Oct. 5, from noon-1 p.m. in The Warehouse Auditorium, first floor, 350 W. Fayette St., Syracuse.

The designs of the junior industrial and interaction design students will be judged on appropriate, effective use of materials; human factors considerations; and overall aesthetics. Judges for the competition will be Philip Stevens ’51, president of Philip Stevens Associates Ltd. in Skaneateles, N.Y.; and Scott Ryan, president of Brownlie Design, also in Skaneateles. The winning design will receive a cash award.
