SU's recycling program expands
As of July 1, Syracuse University has a new five-year waste removal and recycling contract with Syracuse Haulers. As a result of this new contract, the University has expanded its recycling program to include the recycling of tub-type containers stamped #5 on the bottom, such as yogurt and cottage cheese containers.
The following items are now recyclable at the University. Please note that all food-related items must be rinsed and free of oily residues.
- Plastics–#1 and #2, bottles and jugs only (with caps removed); #5 tub containers (such as yogurt cups and cottage cheese containers)
- Paper and paperboard
- Tin, steel and aluminum food and beverage cans, and aluminum foil
- Glass bottles and jars
- Cardboard
- Gable-topped cartons (such as paper-board milk or orange juice containers)
- Aseptic (sterile) containers (such as soy milk and juice boxes)
New recycling posters will be printed and posted in University facilities. For the full list and up-to-date information on recycling at the University, visit the Sustainability Division’s FAQ Sheet on Recycling at http://greenuniversecity.syr.edu/Recycling.html.
