A new certificate of advanced study (C.A.S.) program in post-conflict reconstruction (PCR), to be offered by Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and College of Law, has been approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and will be available beginning next fall.

Open to all graduate students enrolled at Syracuse University, the certificate program is a pathbreaking interdisciplinary initiative designed to bridge complex fields of research and practice by preparing students for careers in post-conflict stabilization, reconstruction and peace-building environments.

“This program is truly unique among our peer institutions—we’ve brought together faculty from three top research institutes to integrate the new certificate into a larger teaching and research program that will contribute new professionals ready to go to work in this area,” says William C. Banks, director of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism (INSCT), the nonprofit research center that shepherded the creation of the certificate program.

“This certificate addresses a critical need for competent, adaptive professionals who understand the full range and complexity of security, governance and humanitarian challenges in post-conflict societies,” says Bruce W. Dayton, associate director of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs.

Participating graduate and law students will complete three courses and one capstone project or internship.
