University Union makes history with sold-out Block Party concert; Drake to perform for Dome crowd of 9,584

University Union is proud to announce record-breaking ticket sales for the annual Block Party concert this Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m. Headlining “The Away From Home Tour” is rising Canadian hip hop star Drake with supporting acts K-Os and Francis and the Lights. Special guest N.E.R.D. will also join the lineup at the Carrier Dome.

In 2006, Kanye West gave an unforgettable concert in the Carrier Dome selling 8,137 tickets, the most any Block Party had ever sold. Since then, ticket sale totals have ranged from 3,500 to 4,000, with recent performers including Ben Folds and Guster, Fergie with Sean Kingston, and Ciara with Lupe Fiasco and T.V. On The Radio. Not until this year have any artists been able to come close to Kanye’s record-selling show.

This year’s Block Party has surpassed Kanye’s legendary performance, selling out at 9,584 tickets, making Drake the new record-holding headliner. Some 4,500 tickets were sold during the exclusive one-week SU student pre-sale in March. This is the most tickets a Block Party concert in the Dome has ever sold in both student pre-sale and total.

Drake’s stop in Syracuse will also be the largest concert of all the universities and colleges on “The Away From Home Tour.” The other shows on his college route have smaller venue capacities, making SU’s 9,584 sold-out Block Party the largest college show in attendance. Drake’s performance April 9 at Pennsylvania State University sold 8,500 tickets.
