First impressions count, especially in professional situations. Haven’t a clue about what’s appropriate for an interview? Not sure of the line between personal expression and what’s distracting? Just want to polish your look? Join Syracuse University Career Services on March 3 for “Dress for Success," a fun and educational event about appropriate business professional attire. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Gifford Auditorium (HBC).

“Dress for Success” will cover the do’s and don’ts of dressing for interviews, career fairs and other professional settings. The event will feature a fashion show, a “Fashion Feud” game-show style competition, live music and giveaways for all attendees. Director of the Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs and former Associate Director of Career Services Greg Victory will emcee the event. He will discuss common mistakes individuals make dressing for interviews and jobs. Lord & Taylor representative Jules Capsello will share her secrets on how to select clothing and assemble outfits that can transition between various settings. Victory and Capsello will also talk about how to dress well on a college student’s budget.

“In today’s competitive job market, it’s important that job seekers dress to make a strong first impression,” says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. “If your appearance puts off a prospective employer from the start, it becomes more difficult to win that person over with your skills and qualifications.”

At the end of the event, members of the University community nominated for their sense of fashion will showcase their own business professional styles in a fashion show.

“Dress for Success” is open to the SU community. Tickets are available at the Schine Box Office: $3 for students and $5 for general admission.
