Memorial Service for Professor Emeritus Joel Kidder to be held Dec. 19

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Professor Emeritus Joel Kidder will be held Saturday, December 19 at 10 a.m. in Syracuse University’s Hall of Languages, Room 500. The service is open to the University community.

Kidder died December 4 after being struck by a pickup truck as he was attempting to cross Erie Boulevard.

Kidder was a member of the Department of Philosophy in SU’s College of Arts and Sciences for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He is the author of a number of articles on ethics and political philosophy, including work on Hobbes and on Kant. Kidder continued to be active in the department until his death.

Kidder is survived by a brother Alden Kidder, who lives in Indiana, and a sister Phyllis Kidder Alden, who lives in Brooklyn.
