University participates in annual Dictionary Project

University College and SU staff member Kelly Rodoski participated in the annual Dictionary Project sponsored by the Corporate Volunteer Council of Central New York.

Some 2,000 third-graders in 22 Syracuse City schools received free dictionaries on Oct. 23 as part of the National Dictionary Project. Eileen Jevis, communications manager at University College, traveled to Seymour Magnet School to distribute 144 dictionaries to the students. The third-graders also received Halloween bags filled with pencils, erasers and bookmarks. Rodoski distributed more than 80 dictionaries and pencils to students at Delaware Academy.

“This event is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. The students are so excited and appreciative,” says Jevis. “We distribute both Spanish and English dictionaries so that the students can cross-reference words they are learning as part of their curriculum. A few students asked if there were extra dictionaries they could take home for their parent to use.”
