Alumna returns as guest preacher for Protestant Campus Ministry during Orange Central weekend

The Rev. Carla Dietz Carroll ’74, an alumna of Syracuse University‘s College of Visual and Performing Arts, will be the guest preacher for SU’s Protestant Campus Ministry on Oct. 4, during Orange Central celebration weekend.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. in Hendricks Chapel. All are welcome. The Hendricks Chapel Choir (HCC) will perform, under the direction of Director John Warren and accompanied by University Organist Kola Owolabi. A reunion choir, comprised of former HCC members, will join in singing with the HCC.

Dietz Carroll received a bachelor’s degree in drama and appeared in Syracuse productions of “Galileo” and “Waiting for Godot,” alumni presentations and other numerous student productions.

After graduating from SU, Dietz Carroll moved to Manhattan and worked as a professional actress in soap operas, TV commercials, Off-Off Broadway and dinner theater for 12 years. After a brief stint as a radio advertising account executive, she developed a radio and television show entitled “Women in Business.”

Dietz Carroll then received a master’s degree in special education. She taught in public and private schools in Connecticut and served at several local United Church of Christ churches as a Sunday school teacher. She served as director of Christian education in two local churches while attending Yale University School of Divinity, where she earned her M.Div.

Ordained by the Fairfield West Association of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ, Dietz Carroll is currently serving as associate pastor at United Church of Rowayton and is involved in education and faith formation, pastoral care, youth ministry and mission and preaching.
